Le Bel: A Story of Beauty in All Its Facets

Sidonie often marveled at how beauty found its way into the simplest moments, even when the world seemed heavy with responsibility. For her, beauty was never just about appearances; it was a feeling, a truth that lived in the quiet, unnoticed corners of life. It wasn’t something loud or boastful—it was in the way sunlight kissed the surface of a coffee cup, in the soft flutter of curtains in the breeze, and in the resilience of her mother, whose love had shaped Sidonie’s every breath.

The creation of Le Bel wasn’t a fleeting inspiration but a slow, deliberate symphony of her memories and desires—a way to capture the many shapes and shades of beauty that had touched her life. For Sidonie, the journey toward this fragrance began years ago, in the café where she’d spent her childhood.

Sidonie’s mother always had a way of finding beauty where others saw only struggle. On Sidonie’s tenth birthday, when there wasn’t enough money for a grand celebration, her mother had surprised her with a small bowl of ripe blackcurrants and a single lemon from the café kitchen. She had sliced the lemon into delicate rounds, sprinkling the berries with sugar, creating a makeshift dessert that sparkled like treasure in the fading light of the café.

“Beauty,” her mother had said that day, “isn’t about what you have. It’s about how you look at it.”

This memory stayed with Sidonie like a cherished photograph, a reminder that the simple things—like the tartness of blackcurrant, the brightness of citrus, and the warmth of shared moments—held more beauty than anything grand or elaborate ever could. It was in those little moments of abundance within simplicity that Le Bel found its first notes: the lusciousness of fig, the brightness of lemon, and the sparkling freshness of blackcurrant and bergamot.

As Sidonie grew older, her understanding of beauty deepened. In her teenage years, she discovered the allure of flowers while wandering through the countryside near Griffen. On warm spring afternoons, she would lie in fields of wild violets and tuberose, letting the fragrant breeze carry her worries away. Flowers became her escape, her sanctuary, and her muse.

When she began crafting candles, she knew she wanted to include this part of herself—the delicate, blossoming beauty of blooms—in her creations. Le Bel became an ode to that part of her life: a heart of tuberose, iris, geranium, rose, and violet, each petal a reflection of how she’d grown. These weren’t just flowers; they were fragments of her own story, woven into a tapestry of fragrance.

Beauty, however, isn’t always light and airy—it also has depth. Sidonie learned this in her later years, as life’s challenges began to shape her in profound ways. Her memories of the café, where the air was often heavy with cigarette smoke, had once made her turn away from anything dark or musky. But as she matured, she realized that warmth and grounding were just as much a part of beauty as brightness and light.

The base of Le Bel reflects this realization: sandalwood, amber, musk, and oakmoss form a foundation that anchors the fragrance, giving it a weight that feels like an embrace. These notes speak of quiet evenings, steady resilience, and the way beauty can make you feel safe, even when the world feels uncertain.

Le Bel is more than a candle—it’s Sidonie’s way of exploring what beauty truly means. It’s a story of contrasts: the brightness of citrus against the depth of sandalwood, the sweetness of blackcurrant balanced by the powdery elegance of iris. For Sidonie, beauty isn’t confined to a single idea; it’s multifaceted, dynamic, and ever-changing.

She wanted Le Bel to embody this truth, to feel like a journey. Lighting the candle would be like stepping into a moment of transformation: the opening burst of fresh, luscious fruit; the soft, tender blooms of the heart; and the comforting warmth of the base as it settles into the air. Each phase is a reminder that beauty isn’t static—it evolves, just as Sidonie has.
