Elektra Anastasi
"Scent of Memory: Crafting Light and Legacy
Elektra has always been captivated by the power of scents and their connection to memory. Scents possess a unique magic, capable of transporting us to different moments in our lives with just one whiff. The fragrance of a particular flower, the fresh scent of grass after the first rain, or the aroma of your grandmother’s apple pie on a winter’s day all evoke memories of childhood, your first summer love, or perhaps even your first heartbreak. It’s almost as if these invisible tendrils of scent are delicate threads, weaving together fragments of our past and present in ways that words cannot.
For her, the Palo Santo & Rose scented candle holds a special place in her heart. The earthy, smoky notes of Palo Santo immediately conjure up memories of her late grandfather and her visits to Rome. His apartment in Prati, with its tall, sunlit windows and worn wooden floors, always smelled of incense and the warm, resinous scent of Palo Santo. As soon as she crossed the threshold, she felt enveloped in the familiar embrace of his world. His stoic presence, sitting by the window with an open newspaper in hand, mirrored the grounding nature of the scent itself. The aroma seemed to hum with quiet wisdom, reminding her of the simple joys of life.
Her grandmother, on the other hand, had an eye for beauty. She would fill her home with fresh flowers, and Elektra remembers a vase of wild roses always sitting on the dining table. Their fragrance was soft, floral, and a touch wild—just like her spirit. She was the one who introduced her to the delicate art of arranging flowers. Together, they would stroll through Rome’s open markets, her hand guiding Elektra as they carefully selected the brightest blooms. Those moments—walking side by side, her stories flowing as easily as the breeze beneath the hot Mediterranean sun—remain etched in her soul. Now, whenever she smells roses, Elektra is transported to those carefree summer days, eating her ‘Granita di Caffè’ in Piazza Risorgimento, when life felt full of wonder and anything seemed possible.
In many ways, Elektra’s life in the film industry is a sharp contrast to the calm her grandparents cultivated. Working in film is a whirlwind—exciting, yes, but also relentless. The days are long, filled with equal parts chaos and magic. Sometimes, the crew has to wait for hours, paralyzed by technical difficulties or unpredictable weather. Other days, the pressure mounts, and everybody rushes to capture scenes in perfect light, knowing there won’t be a second chance. The industry demands everything: your time, your energy, your passion. Sacrifices are inevitable: time spent away from loved ones, missed celebrations, the constant balancing act between the personal and professional.
But at the end of it all, when the cameras stop rolling and you see the finished product—the characters coming alive on the screen, the world you helped create—it’s all worth it. That shared creation, that collective effort, is something like alchemy. Still, amid the exhilarating highs and lows, she sometimes loses herself in the frenzy of endless demands. That’s when she reaches for the steady comfort of Palo Santo.
In recent years, though, Elektra has found a sanctuary far removed from the bright lights and hurried pace of the film sets. Candle-making has become her respite, a quiet, meditative practice where she can reconnect with herself. When she first started creating candles in her small studio, she wasn’t expecting it to become such a profound part of her life. What began as a simple creative outlet soon blossomed into something more—a ritual, a source of peace.
There’s a certain stillness in working with your hands, in watching the flames flicker gently, knowing that in this quiet act, you are crafting light for someone’s home. It feels intimate, almost sacred. Every candle she creates for Myth & Wild holds a piece of her.
The rhythm of candle-making is slow and deliberate, a far cry from the hectic world of film. She works at her own pace, allowing each creation to unfold naturally.
In a world so often ruled by speed and productivity, she has found immense comfort in this slower form of creation. Myth & Wild is more than just a candle business to her. It’s an invitation to others to slow down, to fill their homes with warmth and light, and to cultivate moments of beauty in their daily lives.
